In any gathering, in any Mevlana Jalaluddin Rumi |
Burhanuddin received the direct transmission of the Sufi Naqshbandi order, one of the most authoritative and ancient one among the forty traditional existing Sufi orders. Known through the ages under different names, like the School of the Masters of Wisdom, or the Path of Love, it is called nowadays Naqshbandi. It derives its name from the great Sufi saint, active in Central Asia, in the area of Bukhara in Uzbekistan, Shah Baha’uddin Naqshbandi (1317-1389), may God sanctify his secret. He was the seventeenth in the direct uninterrupted line of descent originated from the heart of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, through Sayyisdina Abu Bakr the acknowledged heir of his mystic teachings, instead of sayyidina Ali, may God be pleased with them, as it is the case for all the other Sufi orders. Naqshbandi etymologically is composed by the terms “impression, print” (naqsh) and “to bind, to fasten” (band), referring to the divine Name that is imprinted in the heart of the disciple. It may happen through one glance of the Sheikh, the master, and through the practise that will keep alive that connection. Burhanuddin used to travel in the East to deepened his studies and to receive the teachings of the Way. He started walking on the Sufi path when he was very young. At the age of nineteen, after seeing one of his picture, he decided to invite to his town his future teacher, Grand Master Maulana Sheikh Nazim al Haqqani, the present world guide of the Naqshbandi Sufi order and the fortieth in the direct descent line. When he saw him the first time, he was so overwhelmed by his majesty and power, that he simply fainted in the middle of the street. From that day on he was at his side, accompanying him in his frequent travelling all over the world spreading the Sufi touch of grace and love. |
